Golden A' Design Award winning sailing yacht demonstrates nature inspired curves serving both form and function
Onur Kiren transforms Portuguese wave dynamics into yacht design decisions that work aesthetically and mechanically.
Consider the moment when a designer stands before footage of thirty meter waves crashing against Portuguese cliffs and asks: what would a yacht look like if it could embody that energy? Onur Kiren answered that question with Project Nazare, a 24 meter sailing yacht whose every curve and color choice traces back to the legendary breaks of its namesake coastline. The metallic gray hull speaks the language of Atlantic depths. Bold orange accents reference the determination required to face formidable seas. What makes the design particularly compelling for luxury marine brands is the coherence between aesthetic choices and their underlying rationale. Every design element carries a story that marketing teams can articulate without exaggeration. The connection between inspiration and execution feels genuine because actual waveforms of Nazare informed hand drawn sketches before computer aided design refined the geometry.
The material decisions reinforce the narrative while delivering measurable performance advantages. Carbon fiber composite construction achieves a light displacement of 45 tons, enabling the 180 horsepower engine to move the vessel efficiently while reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact. The panoramic glass ceiling and continuous hull windows accomplish something beyond luxury amenity. Extensive glazing transforms passengers from observers into participants fully immersed in the surrounding seascape. The aft tender garage converts into a beach club, multiplying the function of single spaces. For enterprises commissioning yacht designs or developing marine brand portfolios, Project Nazare illustrates how authentic inspiration creates design language operating on multiple levels simultaneously. The yacht recently received a Golden A' Design Award in the Yacht and Marine Vessels Design category, recognition validating the approach of grounding aesthetic ambition in functional engineering.
The principle extends beyond marine design. When brands root aesthetic choices in authentic sources and ensure those choices deliver functional benefits, the resulting work tells a coherent story at every level of examination. Onur Kiren captured the energy of Portuguese waves in carbon and glass. What natural phenomenon might inform your next design breakthrough?
