Award winning statement jewelry demonstrates personal commissions can become signature works that define entire enterprises
Starting from human essence creates jewelry that carries meaning into lasting brand identity.
Philippe Vergez began the Roaring Lion Choker with a question that sounds almost quaint in contemporary luxury: what qualities define a specific human being, and how might precious materials embody those qualities? The answer took four months and three continents to realize. The subject was Qymira, an artist and philanthropist whose stage presence and charitable mission inspired every facet of the white gold lion that now sits at the throat, precisely where voice originates. The deliberate choice to start from a specific person's spirit gave the design team a north star that guided every subsequent decision. The resulting statement choker, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in Jewelry Design, demonstrates something brands across creative industries might consider: products anchored in human essence often carry meaning that extends far beyond immediate market positioning.
The technical challenges Philippe Vergez and gemologist Evgeny Sukhov solved reveal how emotional intent shapes engineering decisions. Qymira performs, dances, and plays violin. The Roaring Lion Choker needed to feel like it floats while remaining secure during vigorous movement. The solution involved hidden stainless steel rods passing through the sculptural lion head, providing structure while Tahitian pearls with widened drill holes create the flexible collar. Every facet of the white gold lion required individual hand filing and polishing. The piece will eventually be auctioned to support the One Gaia Foundation, transforming tribute into charitable tool. For luxury brands and design studios evaluating signature creation strategies, the Roaring Lion offers a framework worth examining: start from specific human qualities, solve real problems those qualities demand, and trust that purpose amplifies the final work.
The Roaring Lion Choker suggests a compelling path for brands seeking signature works: begin with essence, let technical challenges emerge from emotional truth, and trust that purpose opens dimensions worth exploring. What specific human spirit might anchor your next signature creation?
