Award winning concrete speaker demonstrates material selection as strategic brand environment communication
Concrete speaker design proves unconventional materials can amplify brand messaging.
A speaker weighing 24 kilograms and cast in concrete announces its intentions immediately: permanence, substance, and deliberate craft. Jurica Huljev's One618 Omnee, a Golden A' Design Award winner in Audio and Sound Equipment Design, emerged from four years of development questioning every assumption about speaker enclosure materials. The concrete provides acoustic properties that justify the unconventional approach: heterogeneous density absorbs internal vibrations, substantial mass eliminates resonant coloration, and the tactile surface develops unique character through years of use. For enterprises designing premium physical spaces, the Omnee presents audio equipment functioning simultaneously as sculptural centerpiece and high-fidelity sound source. The concrete form communicates permanence, authenticity, and considered craft before producing a single note.
The acoustic architecture extends the material innovation into performance. A custom acoustic lens disperses sound waves in 360 degrees horizontally and 95 degrees vertically, eliminating the directional constraints that typically force interior designers to position seating around speaker coverage zones. Hotel lobbies, retail showrooms, and corporate reception areas can arrange furnishings for human interaction rather than audio optimization. Touch controls hidden beneath the concrete surface, illuminated only by discrete fiber optics when needed, maintain the monolithic sculptural presence while offering full functionality. Battery operation lasting three to five days removes power cable constraints entirely. For brands investing in physical environments where every element contributes to perception, Huljev's Omnee demonstrates audio equipment participating in design narrative rather than providing background function alone.
Material choices in brand environments carry meaning independent of function. A speaker cast in concrete communicates presence, permanence, and design intention as a visible sculptural element. The One618 Omnee invites brands to consider what story their audio infrastructure tells. What materials in your environment are speaking on behalf of your organization?
