A Golden A' Design Award winning whisky bar demonstrates spatial concepts can program human connection
Intersecting lines create intersection points and intersection points create relationships.
Something remarkable happens when horizontal and vertical lines cross: they create intersection points, and every intersection becomes an opportunity for connection. Shigui Liu and LSG Design Office built the Baoan Guancheng Family Fit Bar in Shenzhen around this geometric principle turned social philosophy. The 300 square meter whisky bar earned a Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design in 2020 for an approach where architectural elements form lattices that divide space while maintaining visual connections throughout. The lattice concept places human interaction at the center of every design decision. The venue creates conditions where strangers naturally cross paths and become acquaintances. Every crossing point functions as a communication platform where relationships can begin.
For hospitality brands evaluating commercial venue design, the Family Fit Bar offers a clear behavioral framework: lattice divides space, space defines human activity. The designers focused on experiential essence, with black dominating the color palette to create privacy and comfort where visitors feel at ease engaging in genuine conversation. Gold accents introduce warmth and celebration. North-south windows enable natural air circulation, reducing operational costs while improving comfort. Custom fabrication maintained visual consistency across all lattice-inspired elements throughout the space. The venue became a destination in Shenzhen's competitive nightlife scene, commercial success emerging from designing for experience quality. Brand managers seeking differentiation through spatial strategy can find a compelling reference point in how philosophical foundations translate into tangible business outcomes.
The question for brands developing hospitality venues becomes wonderfully specific: What intersections do you want to create? The Baoan Guancheng Family Fit Bar demonstrates that a geometric principle can shape commercial success when every design element serves a coherent experiential purpose. Architecture designed to encourage crossing paths becomes architecture that builds communities.
